Technology is everywhere and inescapable. It greatly enhances our lives, and also introduces challenges and discernment that require wisdom and self-discipline. As the people of God we can make two equal and opposite mistakes: First, we can simply reject technology in a knee-jerk fashion, while looking back on an idyllic (and illusory) past when we were “free” from all these screens. On the other hand, we can uncritically accept technology in a naive way, chasing after the next thing and trusting too much in technology–unconsciously hoping that our technology can somehow save us or address our deepest longings. Neither of these responses are adequate for the people of God.
